UEFA UNDER 21 CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING MATCH
BROADWOOD STADIUM, CUMBERNAULD
FRIDAY, 28TH MARCH 2003, KICK OFF 7.30PM.

SCOTLAND 1-0 ICELAND

There was little Rangers interest in the Scotland U21 fixture against
Iceland at Broadwood on Friday night.  Keeper Allan McGregor joined defender
Stephen Hughes on the bench.

James McFadden provided most of the first half Scotland threat along with
Sunderland¹s Kevin Kyle.  McFadden coming close of several occasions - a
shot coming off the post and a well worked move down the left ending with
McFadden being adjudged offside.

The breakthrough in a fairly even but dull match came in the 69th minute.
Celtic¹s Shaun Maloney (who had come on as a sub six minutes earlier)
hurtled into the box to net from a great cross fired in by Ian Murray.

Maloney was lucky not be be booked for diving with three minutes to go.

Stephen Hughes came on with ten minutes to go but had little to do.
