We begin this week in The Bundesliga:

Bayern Munich fresh on the back of a 4-0 CL win against Spartak Moscow, were brought crashing back down to earth by Arminia Bielefeld - who came from behind to defeat the reigning champions 2-1 - To round off a miserable afternoon for the Bavarians, Owen Hargreaves suffered a leg break.

Werder Bremen last season's runners up - raced into a 2-0 lead against VFB Stuttgart - but ended up losing 3-2.

Hamburg's woeful form continues - they went down 1-0 in Dortmund.

Nuremberg's 1-1 draw with Bochum - was enough to put them clear at the top of the table on Saturday - they have 8 points from 4 games – However Hertha Berlin went top on goal difference on Sunday – after defeating Peter Lovenkrands's Schalke 2-0.

Moving onto The Eredivisie in Holland - Ex-Ranger Shota Arveladze was again on target for AZ Alkmaar in their 2-2 draw with Twente - Louis Van Gaal's men retained top stop after Ajax crashed 2-0 against Roda.

In the big game of the weekend - PSV defeated Feyenoord 2-1 - Jefferson Farfan and Rodrigo Alex scoring the goals for PSV in front of a capacity crowd in Eindhoven.

Lyon supreme in midweek against Real Madrid, reclaimed top spot on Saturday evening in France - winning 3-1 away at Lorient - Tiago, Fred and Malouda were on target for Paul Le Guen's old club.

PSG bounced back after last week's nightmare against Marseille - to win 2-1 away at Monaco - While Marseille continued their fine start to the season by seeing off Bordeaux at The Stade Velodrome - After 6 games - L'OM and Lyon are tied on 16 points at the top of ‘Ligue 1'.

In Italy the pressure is already increasing on Inter coach Roberto Mancini - after a dreadful display in Europe midweek - Inter (for whom Adriano was dropped) could only draw in the San Siro against Sampdoria.

Milan made it six ponts out of six by seeing off Parma 2-0 - Milan took the lead from a wonderful free-kick by Seedorf - before a Kaka penalty secured the points for The ‘Rossoneri'.

Roma continued their fine start to the season by winning away at Siena 3-1 - and must now be considered favourites for Wednesday's showdown with Inter.

Palermo join Milan and Roma at the summit of ‘Serie A' after securing a fine 2-1 victory away at Lazio - Di Michele grabbed a brace for The Sicilians.

Juve got their first ever victory in ‘Serie B' - Del Piero and Trezeguet scoring the goals in a 2-1 win against Vicenza - Juve are still rooted to the bottom on -13 points.

The Barcelona show continued in La Liga - The Catalans easily defeated Racing Santander 3-0 - Valencia maintained the pressure on Rijkaard's side by beating Getafe 2-0 at The Mestalla - Ex-Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes was once again on target with Vicente grabbing the other - in a game which saw the debut of Joaquin for 'Los Che'.

Real Madrid recovered from their disaster in Lyon to defeat the Basques of Real Sociedad 2-0 - David Beckham dropped for the game, came off the bench to score a fine goal.

Athletic Bilbao (one of only 3 teams along with Madrid and Barcelona to have never been relegated) were taken apart by Atletico Madrid at ‘San Mames' - New Argentine signing Sergio Aguero scored one of ‘Atleti's' goals.

It was good to see one of Septic's CL rivals Benfica - get their first win of the season in Portugal - The Eagles defeated Nacional 1-0 with a goal scored by Luisao.

Quote of the week comes from Paolo Maldini, who had some harsh words for his ex-Milan team-mate Shevchenko : “Andriy Shevchenko didn't handle the situation very well. A love affair can end, but you have to be clear about it, which would've avoided what happened. Nobody could've accused him of being a traitor if he'd been a bit more honest.”
