Walter Smith to stay on at Rangers until 2013?

Whether you think Walter Smith to be the best modern embodiment of what makes a true Ranger, or a decent man who has long since served his time at the Club, no fan of The Rangers can be trully content with a situation where the manager's contract expires in the new year, and no new deal - or new appointment - has been announced, or indeed agreed.

New Chairman Alastair Johnston had indicated that face-to-face talks with Smith were one of his first priorities in his new post, and reports in today's media (The Herald in particular) suggest that Walter Smith will have the prospect of a new three year deal to consider.

It is no secret that Smith's patience with the cost-cutting of both his squad and backroom staff is unlikely to last another attack, so it will be interesting to see what guarantees are in place in any new offer of employment.
