Tuesday's Aftermath

It's not love I'm runnin' from
It's the heartbreak I know will come
Cause I know you're no good for me
But you've become a part of me

Nowhere to run to baby
Nowhere to hide

Women will tell you it is all in the timing. Well mines sucked on Tuesday night. There I was working night shift and mildly confident at being a goal up against the might of Lithuanian football. I then decided to phone Mrs G and ask her to confirm that we'd qualified for the CL 3
rd round. 'They've just scored to make it 2-1' she said. 'Two-one for Rangers' I asked by way of reply. 'No, 2-1 for THEM.' Well that was my night shift well and truly shafted.

We can talk all we want about domestic football and yes the league title should be our number one priority every year. But I defy anyone to say they weren't floating on a cloud of Ether last season as one by one and round by round our European hopes rose. I want that feeling all the time. I see no reason why a club of our stature should not be playing in the latter stages of European football when it is springtime.

That being the case then Tuesday's defeat at the hands, or feet of Kaunus should mean it is the end of the pier show for Walter Smith and Ally McCoist. It should be the end of the road for this pair but sadly unless they decide to walk of their own free will, then it simply will not happen. I will add Kenny McDowall here, but if the other two go, then he is automatic to leave anyway.

The bottom line is the club has been a disaster waiting to happen since those in charge decided to play second fiddle to Liewell and even Boruc who also lies well, last season. In fact it could be argued we achieved a European final berth and a tilt at the title, which went down to the wire in spite of the manager's tactics, not because of them.

Since Nacho Novo tucked away that penalty in Florence last May, we have been abysmal but you'd like to think that you get the previous term out of your system in the summer. Not so us. Apparently despite a three month break we're still feeling the after effects of last season. I'm sorry but that line doesn't work for me, Walter.

Of course the reason some of us are now so 'Bolshie' is because of the contempt the management duo have treated us with all summer long. 'Just you give the @resholes the old oil, Ally, they'll accept it from you.'

Well in case you are reading this gentlemen, no we bloody will not. Trust me on this one, the signing of Kenny Miller will be the very noose you hang yourselves with, and sadly it has been an exercise in football tomfoolery that didn't have to be. Who shouted 'build those gallows' at the back there?

Once again, I accept totally the concept that managers have the right to manage as they see fit. What I object to is being told that a striker who is incapable of scoring goals is the best all round striker Scotland has. Ally, you're patter might have worked with Patsy Kensit, it doesn't wash with me. Then again, it's all about timing!

So where do we go from here? Well, if you bought into the whole Blue Tsunami thing last season then effectively our season is over before a ball has been kicked in the SPL. Now that takes some doing.

It is my firm belief that Kaunus, and the humiliation that it is, and it is the European version of Berwick, has to be the wake up call for the Bears.

Walter Smith and Ally McCoist are possibly the two main legends from the entire Souness era. It saddens me that they should have to leave Ibrox under a cloud. But after Kaunus they do have to leave. That should not be up for debate.

Mind you, we can always look on the bright side. We've now got a whole week to ourselves between Pittawdry and Parkhead later this month.
