Some questions are being raised about Brian
McJannet, from Prestwick, Ayrshire, who claimed in the News of the World on Sunday that his child suffered 93 minutes of verbal abuse at Ibrox.

Even more curious is Mr McJannet and his support for Celtic.

It was already curious that the NOTW should publish a story so full of holes - the idea that anyone in the Celtic end could hear a single person making comments in the Rangers end for the whole of the game.  Or that a person capable of making a volume of noise able to be heard over the din of 50,000 Old Firm fans would not attract the attention of the police and stewards...

Naturally such a jumble of mistruths attracted the attention of many FF readers and a few got in touch with us.  Two in particular were of great help as they had been in Mr McJannet's classes at school in both Castlehill Primary and Belmont Academy.   They were stunned to read the story - McJannet is a life-long Ayr United fan.

Both report meeting him in the last 5-10 years - he'll be 39 or 40 - and report that in all the time they've known him he was an Ayr fan - in fact he has been described to me as "a massive Ayr fan."  They also report he was a very vociferous opponent of both sides of the Old Firm to the point where he would challenge people at Ayr games he knew to be Old Firm fans why they were taking in the occasional game at Somerset Park.

Changes of football allegiance are of course not unknown - but they tend to occur in childhood.

All info concerning this miraculous conversion would be most welcome.
