Sir David Murray quits as Rangers Chairman.

A statement issued to the Stock Exchange includes the following:

Sir David Murray today (Wednesday, 26 August 2009) announced he is to step down as a Board Director and Chairman of Rangers Football Club. He will be succeeded as Chairman of the Club by Alastair Johnston (61), a Director of the Club for the last five years.

Murray will remain majority shareholder, so one wonders how much real change this will bring: those with even a short memory will recall the last time Sir David left and John McLelland took over his duties.Still, this is big news for Rangers, and one wonders over the coming weeks and months if the change in Chairman will also lead to a change in ownership and direction.
