Serie A Update

Serie A presidents see their clubs differently from our Chairmen. The clubs are a mixture of family business, passion and personal fiefdom. After the demise of Cecchi Gori at Fiorentina, the latest madness is from Luciano Gorri of Perugia.

Fresh from sacking his Korean player Jung Hwan after he knocked Italy out of the World Cup, his latest outburst came against his ally and right hand man, the baseball capped Serse Cosmi.

Both men have seen the club rise from Serie C to the top flight, but some poor results saw the President intervene and order his players to a retreat, the infamous punishment imposed on Serie A players under pressure. Cosmi argued that this was useless and was threatened with the sack! Matters have resolved themselves but not before Gorri demanded the strikers train with the youth team!

Maybe it worked, as Perugia drew 2-2 with Roma although at 2-0 up at half time and with a man advantage maybe they will feel they should have won. Two goals from Panucci and Totti earned the Romans a draw.

Elsewhere results went to form with wins for Milan, Inter and Juve. Milan saw off Reggina 2-0 with goals from Inzaghi and Rivaldo. Inter beat newly promoted Como 2-0 away with goals from Recoba and Vieri, while Juve overcame newcomers Modena 1-0 with a goal from Del Piero. Chievo leapfrogged Parma after beating them 1-0 in Parma.

Latest  rumour has Shevchenko turning down Manchester United, who reputedly offered £16m (including goalkeeper Barthez).
