Politics, Sectarianism and Football

This, Bears has been a testing season in more ways than one and it would be fair to say that we have really been put through the wringer and pulled back and forth several times.

The less said about our on-field performances, Champions league apart, the better.

It has been a season whereby it seems every non Ranger supporting hack has stuck his head above the sandbags and fired off a shot, in fact we have even been victims of friendly fire by those we viewed as our own.

I, like many of you have had my say on many of the aspects that irk us. We haven't always agreed but for the most part we share a common love- football and Rangers.

The UEFA appeal at time of writing has still to be heard and we all know the influences from these very shores. I am not about to debate this issue again but would like to refer back to my opening line-sectarianism.

Let's turn the tables from this day forth because the summer will bring no respite from those who seek to do us harm.

No longer do we sit back and fume when they portray sectarianism as a one way street. It is political songs we sing and why you may ask do I reach that conclusion?

I am using the very definition of our rivals in the east.

They sing in support about ancient Irish battles against the crown, the very crown they have chosen to live under, the very crown and government that isues their passports for their one day Champion league specials.

We sing about victories against these rebels that fought our crown . How can we be sectarian rather than political??

This is all I will say on matters as such but urge all bears now to force these hacks and benders of the truth to define why we are viewed as different.

Dont let them fob you off. Hit the phone lines when the football season starts in earnest and they start their selective hearing again.

Make them explain why some of our songs are not seen as political when their friends in the east are. I feel they will shy away from such an open debate.

If we say it often enough it will become fact. We know the influences of that bears.

A pleasant summer to all bears and good luck to PLG and our new look side.

Best wishes to all in light blue who are now moving on.
