Northern Ireland Sports Minister Snubs Invitation to Celtic Park - Campbell Slams IRA Chants

The East Londonderry MP has written to Celtic Chairman John Reid, urging him to tackle the shameful chats which cause much hurt and offence to victims of IRA violence.

Campbell is turning down an invitation to attend a match at Parkhead following the latest outburst of support for terrorism by Celtic 'fans' at Motherwell last Saturday.

Mr Campbell said "The recent songs about the IRA would suggest an awful lot more work needs to be done. It would call into question my attendance at the ground."

Representing an area which has suffered numerous deaths because of terrorism it's understandable he should have concerns for his safety in such circumstances.

The MP for Londonderry East was invited to attend a match at Parkhead by former Celtic Chairman Sir Brian Quinn after he and his wife were subjected to a sickening sectarian attack on a ferry by Celtic fans in October 2007.

This is the latest round of embarrassment to Scotland's international image since a section of the Celtic support contacted the Irish government regarding the 'Famine's Over' chant choosing to turn a simple bit of footballing banter into yet another opportunity to wallow in self-pity and hysteria and talk Scotland down.
