New book about Ibrox

Last updated : 13 June 2008 By Grandmaster Suck
But as well as witnessing glorious triumphs, Ibrox has been touched by tragedy on more than one occasion. As a direct result of one of those dreadful disasters, it became the finest and most modern ground in Europe.

Over the years characters like Buffalo Bill Cody, Winston Churchill, Eric Liddell, Billy Graham, Frank Sinatra, Jim Watt, Elton John and two monarchs have all played their own part in the history of the stadium.

Many of you may have read Follow On, my history of Rangers in Europe. I`ve now been asked to write a new book telling the story of Ibrox in detail.

In some ways, the stadium would be little more than a pile of bricks and mortar without the fans who breathe life into it every other Saturday.

That`s why I plan to include in the book personal anecdotes and memories of the stadium from Rangers supporters and I would like contributions from Follow Follow readers.

You can write as much or as little as you like.

And it could be about anything Ibrox-related - your first match, general memories about standing on the terraces or something about a specific event that happened at Ibrox. Do you have relatives who worked at the stadium in years gone by? Or did you even make a special appearance on the pitch yourself? It could just be general stuff about what the stadium means to you.

One chapter will be dedicated entirely to Tales from The Terraces and will be about what it was like to stand on the old ground in the 60s and early 70s, the days of macaroon bars, spearmint chewing gum, Rangers hard-hats, and guys relieving themselves in beer cans.

If you happen to have any original photos or memorabilia that you think might be of use then I'd be grateful for that too.
