Jock Wallace - the jungle fighter

Last updated : 29 June 2005 By Manfromdelmonte
The year 2006 will see the 10th anniversary of a Ranger I and thousands
of others will never forget.

Big Jock was a Rangers man through and through, a fan, a man of the
people, a gentle giant and a man that made football players fit, very
fit. Take a look at any of the players that served under jock and you
will see a player that was fit to the standard that he like so many
others from jocks teams would have played well into his twilight years.
Jock Wallace was a jungle fighter and in his teams he demanded the same
aggression, the kind of “no surrender” attitude he would ask wee doddie
to cry.

His record speaks for itself two trebles in three years, stopping the
enemy from winning ten in a row; he was even coach of the famous side
that won the cup winners cup back in 72.

I’ve never met a Rangers fan that was around during the Wallace years
that doesn’t have fond memories of Mr Wallace either as the manger or
the fan because Jock loved the fans and loved nothing more than
attending the various RSC dances and meeting the people.

His people and even in the dark days when the club treated him badly
jock wasn’t for selling his story to any papers that was his business
and he took it to the grave like a true Ranger he never once let the
club down right to his last day.

It’s our chance now as fans to show the same kind of dedication back to
the cause and by following on from the excellent tribute banners before
him for the Coop and Mr William Struth, now its big Jocks turn.

The banners have so far been top quality and it’s my intension to
maintain the standard we have now set, let our younger generations see
another “Legend” fly high above the Ibrox stands and let them ask the
questions and learn of the great history our institution has given us.

The Blue Order have arranged various methods for fans to donate to the
project and we also have a flyer being produced and available from
www.followfollow.com and www.theblueorder.co.uk sites which we hope can
be printed off and displayed in as many gers friendly pubs as possible.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that’s contributed
to the legends banners so far, I’ve even been contacted by an older
member of the “Struth” family thanking us for remembering.

These projects can’t be done with out you the people and I’m sure you
are all as proud as I am when you see them flying over the great blue
sea. It’s all down to the bears and their “character”
