Gers To Blow Away The Jambos

Last updated : 23 January 2010 By Paddy Power

The Scottish Premier League table looks good now for Rangers fans, really good in fact. Nine points clear of Celtic and the chance to get one over Hearts this weekend. It’s usually the Jambos that are chasing The Old Firm but Dundee United and Hibs both have a cushion separating them from Hearts down in 5th place. It’s no surprise then that Rangers are heavy 1/3 favourites with Paddy Power and everyone will have this as a home win in their coupon. There’s more value backing The Gers in the handicap markets though where they are Evens at -1 and 13/5 at -2 goals. But given the lack of fit strikers it might be best sticking with the -1 goal handicap this time out.

1/3        Rangers
15/4      Draw
8/1        Hearts

Evens   -1 Rangers
13/5      -2 Rangers

Whilst Rangers do have home advantage and top spot in the league to justify their favourites tag punters should bare in mind the number of attacking options Rangers have unavailable this weekend. Kyle Lafferty is the one recognised striker they have to call on so think on before getting too gung ho with your betting. So talking of Lafferty he’s a 9/2 to score the first goal, 11/2 to score 2 or more and 22/1 to score a hat-trick

After two goals in their last match Steven Whittaker could be the hero again if he can score the goals that send Hearts packing, there’s more value backing him with Paddy Power for the first goal at 8/1. Expect the midfielders to be popular punts this weekend, they are going to play bigger parts in the attack and always have great value in the betting.

Rangers haven’t played at home in the league since the 7-1 against Dundee United, the supposed third best team in Scotland. You can back another 7-1 this time against Hearts at 325/1 with Paddy Power, that maybe a touch optimistic to follow up with but a 3-0 at 15/2 is definitely possible. Rangers have already beaten Hearts, away from Ibrox though that was 2-1 that day and its 13/2 this Saturday.
