Changing Scores for the Old Firm

Last updated : 05 March 2003 By Followfollow.com
From the beginning of the Premier League to the present day, the Old Firm
have met 110 times on league business. 92 times in the old Premier League
and 18 in the SPL.

Instances of popular and common scores are as follows:

PL SPL
1-0 (20) (18) (2)
1-1 (19) (16) (3)
2-1 (13) (12) (1)

Add in the 25 cup games and the totals are as follows:

TOTAL PL Period SPL Period
1-0 (30) (26) (4)
1-1 (19) (16) (3)
2-1 (22) (18) (4)

So 1-0 is still the most popular and likely result within this timeframe.

In the old Premier League the 92 league games saw 238 goals being scored at
a whacky average of 2.59. Cup games in the period saw an almost identical
mean of 2.56 from a production of 46 goals in 18 games.

So far in the SPL those figures have taken quite a jump, partly due to some
high scoring routs. 60 league goals having been netted in 18 games at an
average of 3.33 and the cup clashes seeing a 3.14 average with 22 goals in 7
games.

Although 2-1 is the most popular result since the time of the SPL (on four
occasions) three of those scorelines have been in cup games. In the league
the most popular score is 1-1 (3 times).

It's also worth pointing out that in four of the eighteen SPL games one team
has humped the other by four goals.
In short, 6-1 to Rangers on Saturday!
