Looking away from football I'd like to have a peek at the Tripleprint Gold Cup, at Cheltenham on Saturday. The first BIG race of the Christmas period, and could be one to make a few bob on. The five day favourite is Horus, and can be got around the 3/1 - 7/2 mark. My own tip is Cyfor Malta, available at around 4/1. Will get the distance, and the softish ground expected will suit. One to avoid, surely, is Youllneverwalkalone. Not going into that one. An outsider worth an each way flutter might be Wahiba Sands, generally available at 20/1. I would however suggest waiting till nearer the weekend. The weather could play havoc with the field, quite a few might not go to post.

Elsewhere, I see Rangers are now favourites for the SPL title, for the first time in a few years. 8/11 is available, and i'd snap that up, as if we win next few matches, it will only get shorter. I'm smiling as I have quite a few 7/4, 2/1 and even a 5/2 ticket.

Other stand out bets at the moment are West Ham to get Relegated (11/10), Celta Vigo at Evens to qualify on thursday, Liverpool at 5/1 for the Uefa Cup and Real Madrid at 4/1 to win the Champions League.
