ALL TIME COOPER CLASSICS

Last updated : 22 March 2003 By The Govanhill Gub
On the anniversary of the Coop1s death here1s wee round-up of some of the
best - there1s also a poll on the front page of the site where you can vote
for the best ever Super goal.

All Time Cooper Classics

1 - v  St Mirren. League Cup 3rd Rd Oct. 4th 1978. Long range free kick
rifled in from around 25 yards. Bert Konterman saw it recently and said, 'I
wish I could hit them like that'!

2 - v Hearts. League Oct. 4th 1986. Individual genius from Super Cooper this
time as he beats the Hearts defence all ends up before stroking the ball
home right in front of the adoring Rangers support at Tynecastle.

3 - v Dundee Utd. League Cup final 28th Nov. 1981. Deadly free kick curled
in from right hand side of the penalty box to drag Rangers back into the
game.

4 -  v Hibs. League Cup semi final Oct. 9th 1985. Another free kick corker
from the moody one. Alan Rough might have saw this one. But that was only on
the highlights afterwards.

5 - v Aberdeen. League Cup final Oct. 25th 1987 (What was it with this guy
and the League Cup, eh?) Another free kick. Another Cooper cracker. I can
still, even now, hear the sound of the net going 'thwack' as the ball
rocketed by Leighton in the Aberdeen goal. The ball was hit with such force
that 72,000 people stood for a second before realising that a goal had
actually been scored.

6 - v Celtic. Drybrough Cup Final 4th Aug. 1979. What else is there left to
say about this one?  Fun in the sun. The stuff of dreams from the Coop.

Honourable assists which just have to be mentioned.

Robert Fleck v Ilves Tamperes.  UEFA Cup Sept. 17th 1986. Two yard tap in
after Cooper had beat man after man for him.

Ian Durrant. v Celtic League Aug. 31st 1986.  What is there to say about
THAT reverse pass. Aitken's vacant look as he realises he's playing in a
different game altogether from the Coop is almost as good as the goal
itself.

Davie Cooper. Always to be savoured. Never to be forgotten.
