Weekend Horse Racing Advice

Some decent racing on Saturday but this is not generally speaking the best time to be betting as the flat season is coming to a close and the jump season is just about getting into swing. However there look to be two standout bets .

The first is in the Racing Post Trophy over a mile at Doncaster. This is the last group 1 race for 2 year olds for the season and I’m looking for Aiden O’Brien to continue his excellent run, both in this event and generally, with his two year olds. Fallon has chosen Septimus over three other O’Brien runners and that is good enough for me. Septimus was workmanlike rather than spectacular in his previous race, but he showed battling qualities that will stand him in good stead tomorrow. He looks the one to be on.

The St Simon stakes at Newbury 3.45 looks to give Mubtaker an excellent chance to win again in what has been a successful season for the old boy. He also loves it at Newbury and in the probable absence of Norse Dancer I think he can win again today. The improving Day Flight, Dubai Success, the sometime hurdler Self Defense and Godolphin’s Songlark will all have their supporters but, for me, Mubtaker is the answer.
