U19 League - Rangers 2 (Adam 66, Johnston 78) Dunfermline Athletic 0

Last updated : 10 April 2004 By Mister Dog

This win leaves the Ibrox youngsters six points clear
of Celtic (who have a game in hand) with just four
games remaining.

Rangers were in control from the first minute, but a
series of missed chances and some superb goalkeeping
kept the scoresheet blank until midway through the
second-half.

Mind you, 'Pars goalkeeper Sean Murdoch was fortunate
to remain on the park in 25 minutes when he crudely
chopped down Bajram Fetai as the Ranger went through
on goal. Leaving aside the question of whether it was
a goalscoring opportunity, Murdoch should have been
red-carded for what was a truly shocking tackle.

The goalkeeper celebrated his good fortune by
continuing to defy Rangers until the 66th minute when
Charlie Adam curled a twenty-yard effort into the top
corner of the net.

The goal came at exactly the right time as the Light
Blues had looked to be tiring, a reaction to the huge
number of games these players have had to play
recently at both Under-19 and Under-21 levels.

The points were sealed in 78 minutes when substitute
John Johnston netted from a Fetai lay-off.

'Gers goalkeeper Lee Robinson again impressed,
producing two superb second-half saves to deny the
visitors a goal.

Team: Robinson; Jacmot, Coyle; Watson, McKenzie,
