U19 League - Rangers 1-1 Hearts

Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw by Hearts in this
SPL Youth fixture at Auchenhowie in a game
that should have been won comfortably.

The outcome hinged on an incredible refereeing
decision as early as the eleventh minute when Charlie
Adam, clean through on goal, was scythed down for a
stonewall penalty.

There was no hesitation from the official in awarding
the spot-kick, yet incredibly he failed utterly in his
responsibility to red-card the Hearts defender for
what was a clear denial of a goalscoring opportunity
by any understanding of the law. Indeed, he did not
even speak to the Hearts defender.

Bob Davidson converted the penalty, but the Light
Blues allowed their opponents back into the game as
the first-half progressed. Colin Strickland duly
equalised in 25 minutes.

Rangers had much the better of the second-half, but a
series of missed chances cost them dear, the biggest
sinner being Brian McLean who shot weakly at the
goalkeeper when clean through on the hour.

Best for the home side were Charlie Adam and Mark
Kalenga.
