Trust awards honourary membership to 50s heroes

The presentation will take place on Saturday June 30th in the upstairs lounge of the Wee Rangers Club at 1pm. We have also arranged a Rangers disco and some tributes to both 'Gers legends of the 50s. As an extra attraction we'd also like to offer our younger members and fans the chance to meet some heroes from a very different era compared to their current ones.

The Trust are delighted to have the support of ex-players; more so players of such distinction and we're sure older bears will have some very fond memories of these two players.

Billy joined Rangers from Linfield in October 1950 - playing 262 first team games and scoring 174 goals for the Light Blues making him a player still idolised both in Scotland and his native Ulster. His wee pal Johnny joined the 'Gers one year earlier - known to fans and team mates alike as the penalty king, Johnny scored a remarkable amount of goals - 116 in 258 first team appearances. Not bad for an outside left. The wee South African was my fathers favourite of the time and I'm sure most bears of the era also felt the same due to his ability with the ball at his feet and despite being such a small guy he never flinched from a defenders tackle.

Both these gentlemen are good friends of the Trust already and I can assure any bears coming along they will not only get the chance to meet two Rangers greats but both will take lots of time to chat with them about the our club. So why not come along meet some RST board members, have a wee drink and meet some 'Gers legends. You might even get a picture taken with them….
