TIMOTHY'S TALL TROPHY TALES

Goodness knows we've told you about letting down your guard often enough
here at FF. Now should you need further confirmation (and my flabber is gasted at the notion that you should) then look no further than the latest bout of lies circulating in wheb-footed circles regards an OF Glasgow Cup tie that never was back in season 1967/68.  March 68 being the key month in Timmy's argument.

The facts are these. Setting out way back in Aug/September 67, the yahoos were eliminated at the first time of asking from the European Cup. The League Cup was annexed (in no small part due to two missed Rangers penalties in the section phase) in the October and then Dunfermline put them out of the Scottish in January 68. So all they had from February onwards that season was a steady diet of league football.

Rangers on the other hand had got over the League Cup elimination and were sitting at the top of the league. Still had two massive Fairs Cup ties v Leeds to look forward to and were still at that point in time in the Scottish Cup.

Here is a breakdown of Rangers' fixture list in March 1968

Sat 2nd v St Johnstone League

Mon 4th v Dundee Scottish Cup replay

Wed 6th v Dunfermline League

Sat 9th v Hearts Scottish Cup

Wed 13th v Hearts Scottish Cup replay

Sat 16th v Stirling Albion League

At this time there was still an outstanding Glasgow Cup fixture between the two sides still to be played. Celtic with plenty of time on their hands were agitating for a date. Rangers quite rightly had said that with such a punishing schedule ahead the Glasgow Cup was not really a priority at this point.

That wasn't good enough for the yahoos though and still they kept pushing for a date for this Glasgow Cup tie to be played. A date was eventually given for the tie. The date that was given was incredibly Monday 11th of March. Look for yourselves at the fixture list. Now it is bad enough that we had to play six games in just 14 days but to voluntarily add in a meaningless Glasgow Cup-tie would have been absolute madness. Is it any wonder that Rangers refused to play this tie?

And that folks is the story behind Rangers 'crapping it' to play the yahoos in a Glasgow Cup tie. As we have told you so often in the past and will doubtless tell you in the future. The yahoos are the most ungracious, ungallant, uncouth scoundrels in the history of organised sport. Sutton's remarks after the Kilmarnock game recently were only the latest instalment.
