This Week's Fearless Fab Four

Last updated : 17 October 2003 By Bear Able
The season so far has produced double after double but Fab Four fans are hungry for at least a treble. And a good return could be on the cards as the selections show the best odds ever, albeit with one rather risky pick included.

This Weeks Fab Four:

SPL-Celtic v HEARTS 10/1

The league leaders home form has been tremendous without the slightest scratch to mar the early record. Started with a 5-0 trouncing of Dundee Utd followed it with a 5-1 gubbing of Livingstone, and then that reasonable 3-0 victory at

Fir Park suggested all was “Well” at Celtic Park. However their last home game, a struggle to a 2-0 victory against the Dons, may suggest that there yet may be chinks starting to appear in the Parkhead armour.

And who better to exploit them than the Jambos? Once again Scotland’s “Third Force” are off to a flyer, their sole home defeat being against the previous league leaders, Rangers (4-0), a result which belied their determined effort and professional organisation. It’s their away form that may count, and in this only their Embra rivals could inflict a defeat, albeit via a narrow 1-0 scoreline.

Celtic of course have the sharpest of edges, but against a very organised side that will no doubt remain as Scotland’s top side out with the Big Two this season, 10/1 is far too good to miss. Let’s take it, even if it is more than in hope than anticipation. The more cautious can even get a draw on at a very tempting 5/1.

Nationwide Div 1- Millwall v SHEFFIELD UNITED 11/8

The Lions in 8th place have an abysmal record of five wins out of fourteen games, and their last home win versus Coventry in lowly 14th was followed by an abysmal 0-0 draw v Rotherham who are in an even worse position at 22nd. And then last weeks home defeat to 9th placed visitors Preston capped a miserable start to Millwall’s season.

Form says that they have absolutely no chance against the current league leaders Sheffield United who have been beaten only twice this season. After duly trouncing Rotherham and Cardiff 5-0 and 5-2 respectively at home, they notched up to neat 2-1 victories at relegation strugglers Bradford and Wimbledon before they losing at home to up-and-coming Sunderland.

But last week travelling to fellow Championship challengers WBA who are in third place, they came away with a convincing 2-0 victory suggests that the bookies may have got it hopelessly wrong. Looks like the banker bet of the week for the punters.

SFL Div 1- Queen Of The South v INVERNESS CT 5/4

Top of the table clash has the hosts in 2nd place with only two defeats in eight starts. But they are up against a determined top-of-the-table Caley side that has been firing on all cylinders since their only reverse at the very start of the season away to Falkirk back in August where they eventually went down to a very narrow 2-1 defeat. The Highlanders have not lost a game since. Four straight wins from their last three outings and only one goal scored against them suggests that perhaps ICT have now got it right at both ends of the park.

SFL Div 1- Raith Rovers v CLYDE 11/8

The Coatbridge hosts are one point behind the visitors in 7th and could normally be expected to profit from home advantage. But this season they have yet to win at home, Indeed their last home game resulted in that horrendous 7-1 humiliation versus Ross County. And then ICT consolidated the Highlandars Double with a 2-1 victory last week.

The same ‘’Seven Up Ross’ could only manage a draw against Clyde last week, whose own form is starting to pick up despite going three games without a win. Last seasons red-hot challengers must surely be now ready to “Bully” all challengers a “Wee” while longer.
