The Sheik on Saturday's race cards

Last updated : 27 June 2003 By The Sheik
Saturday sees the running of the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle. This is
a two mile handicap and often is won by a very decent horse. This year the
most likely winner is well known hurdler Landing Light. He won at York
before being second behind Sindapour at Royal Ascot. The one negative is
that this race comes qiute soon after Ascot, but he seems in great form.

Our old friend Don Fernando is also in the field and he too merits serious
consideration. Also to be considered is Sir Michael Stoute's Supremacy who
has the added assistance of K. Fallon. He hasn't run this year but Stoute
would not send the horse to such a test without being 100%. Others will
have their supporters but hopefully they will all be following Landing
Light home.

PS  -  If it rains at Newcastle today Mornin Reserves could well win the
Gosforth Park Cup at 7.20 this evening. He won well at Hamilton and though
raised 7lbs for that effort his stable is in sparkling form and he can be
expected to improve.

Good Luck
