SPL - RANGERS 11/8 v Celtic (Saturday 4th October 12:30 KO)

The Champions scoring form continues to be pretty sound with no less than 3 goals bagged per game since the beginning of the season. There was some slight worries as regards defence when after a fine 4-0 win v Killie two goals were lost in consecutive games at Aberdeen (W3-2) and at home to Hibs (W 5-2), but the following five games gave a more reassuring goals against tally with more convincing wins against Dundee Utd (A 3-1), Dunfermline (H 4-0), Hearts (A 4-0) and last weeks 3-1 v Dundee at home last week..

Visitors Celtic’s home form is excellent with convincing wins over Dundee Utd 5-0, Livingstone 5-1, and Motherwell 3-0. However there are signs that the Bhoys are not happy travellers this year. Beginning the season with a 0-0 draw at Dunfermline, then a narrow 2-1 victory at Firhill , followed by struggles to see off dundee1-0 and Hibs 2-1.

If Rangers maintain their usual free-scoring form then a hat-trick of goals could be reasonably expected. It is in defence where slacking will be more severely punished by Celtic, but perhaps Rangers have taken a lesson from their European ventures in this respect..

EPL Tottenham v EVERTON 9/5

Despite having a historic soft spot for the Spurs, and every sympathy for their current misfortunes, there is no room for sentiment for serious Bookie Bashers. The hapless Londoners sit at 17th place in the Premiership, with just a single point keeping them out of the relegation zone.

With a sole win against Leeds United back in August followed by one draw and three straight defeats, then yet another draw at Manchester City last week, Spurs don’t seem to be well-placed to cope with the Toffees who are seven places above them in the Premiership.

Of Everton’s 3 defeats this season one was against top dogs Arsenal and the other versus their bigger Mersey rivals Liverpool. They then had two fairly respectable draws 2-2 at Charlton, and held Newcastle to the same score at home. Everton followed a narrow 1-0 reverse at Middlesbrough with a 4-0 trouncing of visitors Leeds last week. Expect this will “Spur” them on to get all three points into the toffees tin.

Nationwide Div 1 Gillingham v WEST BROM 11/10

Gillingham in 14th place with only 3 wins in 11 games is not the sort of stuff that would keep the likes of Premiership hungry WBA at bay. Albion having played one less game than their hosts are sitting pretty in 2nd place thanks to a string of seven wins and only two defeats so far. The latest was a narrow 1-0 reverse at Wigan followed by a draw at Crystal Palace but came back to winning ways versus stoke (1-0) then Millwall last week (2-1).

Nationwide Div 2 Grimsby v QPR 5/4

QPR are sitting comfortably in third place courtesy of having lost only one game this season on their first away trip at Brighton way back in August. Since then they have gone nine consecutive games without defeat with the 4-0 0ver visitors Barnsley last week underling their promotion prospects.

They visit Grimbsy who are in 14th, having only won four of their games this season. Defeats included a 8-1 hammering at Hartlepool but recent form has picked up slightly with a win at home to Chesterfield and a respectable draw at Sheffield Wednesday and finally a 1-0 win at Blackpool last week.

Grimsby look to be coming back into form but the Rangers might just have too much momentum for them at the moment.
