That Was a Wonderful Ten Days That Was

During our NIAR period I had a running Old Firm inspired feud with
my old man. My argument was simple and basic. Given the strength and
depth of our squad compared to the squalid ones, I was of the opinion
that we should have given them more pastings than we actually did. My
old man would shake his head and say to his stupid boy that as long as
the Rangers scored one goal more than them, then that was all that
mattered.

Given how we have suffered these last 18 months in that fixture; And
6 out of the 7 defeats were all by that single goal so dear to the
heart of Gub Snr, then it is hard to get away from the notion that the
old guy indeed knows his stuff.

Me though, being the thrawn wee bachle that I am, still cling to the
notion that the CIS match should have been won out of sight in normal
time and last Saturday was a day when they should have been put to the
footballing sword. I say footballing sword because I'd hate that anyone
of a 'Sellik Minded' persuasion would accuse me of pointing a racist or
sectarian pointy thing at them. And just to top it off we actually
stood our ground against the SFA cheats in between the victories over
the yahoos.

First things first. The CIS Cup means nothing to me anymore. It's a
bigger and more important version of the Glasgow Cup, to be sure but
that's it. But the one-over-the-eight victory in this competition was
pleasing and important because we were able to come from behind against
the thugs and that I'm sure must have been of enormous significance to
the manager and his squad.

If nothing else, the win at Fester Rd pointed to a growing sense of
conviction, determination and self-belief among the players. Or maybe
it's just that Alex Rae is back in town? (That's just for you Jaaz) And
what is there to say about the 'craven' display of the referee's
assistant?

Denis Leary said he watched the first Gulf War with a massive
erection, a huge burger consisting of ten pounds of raw meat and a
couple of bottles of beer. He was a proud, patriotic 'American' you
see. Take away the raw meat and the huge erection, substitute for a ham
sandwich and a tidgy pud (honestly, size DOESN'T matter!) and you still
had one, very happy bunny Chez Gub when the news filtered through that
the club wasn't taking Novo's red card lying down. Not only did we
fight our corner, but also reality prevailed.

The Old Firm league fixture was scripted for the wee man to score
and he didn't let us down. Although the club in many respects have
done, purely in my humble opinion of course, in the ensuing and
unsightly debate that has followed the yahoo inspired and constructed
mayhem. Five years down the line from the last Celtic shame game and no
lessons have been learnt.

What else is there left to be said about Celtic FC? They are a
Cancer on Scottish football.

Even now a week down the line the fact that O'Neill, Lennon and
McNamara especially, are not brought to book by the authorities (I'll
not even bother mentioning that dud on loan from the Midlands) once
again highlights just how much inTIMidation has taken root not only in
Scottish football, but the country as a whole.

Mind you, what else should we expect from this laughably called
sporting organisation that can boast a man who fled the 'ould country'
on suspicion of murder as one of their original recruiting agents?

That Martin O'Neill can say Neil Lennon was verbally abused at Ibrox
in racist and sectarian terms is lies. Lennon was abused (as he is the
length and breadth of Scotland) because he is a snarling, little
nonentity who takes pleasure in riling opposition fans. He indulged in
the most deliberately provocative manner seen in an Old Firm since
Paulo Di Cannio (another Celtic player strangely enough) threatened to
break Ian Ferguson's leg (and more of Fergie later) at the house of
shame in March 1997.

I would, in normal circumstances, mention Gazza's invisible flute
playing at the same venue a year later but A/ Hardly anyone witnessed
this innocuous act and B/ The Bhoys Against Bigotry couldn't possibly
hate, or find offensive, anything to do with the Orange Order. Stands
to reason, it's in ra Sellik Social Charter innit?

As before the yahoo propaganda machine has swung into action with
yahoo apologists well to the fore. Of course, as ever, the cowards and
dross that are not of a 'Celtic Minded' persuasion back them up
admirably.

Also, on the subject of racist abuse, I'd love someone to explain to
me how it is possible for a white, British civilian to racially abuse
another white, British civilian? It's a pretty straightforward and
pertinent question in the circumstances but it takes Ian Ferguson
thousands of miles away on the other side of the world to put O'Neill's
hatred and hypocrisy to shame.

Spiers talks about Lennon and brings rape into the equation. Can
Scottish footballing journalism actually (s)ink any lower? Cully talks
about Lennon having 'to endure one of the worst weeks of his life.' Now
you can't begrudge these low lives their twisted version of events but
you sure as hell can make sure they don't get to write about them from
the vantage point of a comfy seat at Ibrox.

Is there no one at Ibrox able to question the fact that the press
were falling over themselves to hire a lip reader five years ago with
regards to Amo and the coloured cheat in Dortmund? Does this not prove
once and for all the hypocrisy and the agenda the press here in
Scotland have and are only too willing to pursue?

Murray MUST come out and defend the fans and the club here. He MUST
come out and say the club is going to hire a lip reader to investigate
the hatred and venom emanating from O'Neill, Lennon and McNamara. The
main point here is; if the shoe had been on the other foot do you think
the yahoos wouldn't resort to these tactics?

He MUST come out and ask questions of Strathclyde Police. That's two
Rangers players banjoed up the tunnel at half time in as many years and
they don't want to know. Hartson gestures towards the Rangers support
after scoring in the League Cup tie. Strathclyde 's finest turn the
other cheek but reprimand a Rangers player for celebrating a goal in
front of his own fans? Anything less from the Chairman is a cop out if
you'll pardon the pun and a dereliction of his duties as custodian.

It beggars belief that McNamara can run about threatening a Rangers
player but Novo is going to be brought before the beaks. Gosh how that
must have hurt the SFA rescinding his red card a week earlier.

Still we mustn't grumble. Anyway, after the despair as we shuffled
out of Ibrox after the Dundee Utd game recently it is now definitely
game on in the title race. The players know what is expected of them.
They've grabbed the bit beneath their teeth so do they have the
determination to keep it going? We shall see.

Yours in Rangers flag waving mode,

The Govanhill Gub
