STEFAN KLOS - NUMBER ONE

Last updated : 28 May 2003 By L:ittle Boy Blue
It has been a season of memorable twists and turns and thankfully it had a
happy ending but I can't help thinking that the most significant moment of
them all came 63 minutes into Sunday's game when Stefan Klos made an
absolutely  brilliant save from a Craig Brewster 20 yarder.  With the Gers
leading 3-1 while Septic were 3-0 ahead at Killie at the time, there was a
very real prospect of the title slipping away from us and the grim
possibility would surely have become a horrible probability if Der Goalie
hadn't thrown himself across his line to get both hands to Brewster's shot.

Off the top of my head I can think of at least half-a-dozen instances when
Stefan has come to the rescue with extra-special saves at times when a game
has hung in the balance.  More recently, his heroics at Swinecastle kept the
Jambos at bay at a point when they threatened to leave us with nothing but
tears for souvenirs.  I'm reluctant to mention any keeper in the same breath
as Andy Goram but Herr Klos is worthy of that great honour

Sunday underlined the point.  Stef had been a mere spectator for much of the
afternoon, defensive slackness presented Brewster with a shooting chance, he
gratefully accepted and was very unlucky to find Klos so alive to the
danger.  It was a brilliant save and a minute or so later RdB made it 4-1,
Thommo made it five soon afterwards, and all our fears were groundless.

But as I swallied long into the night, I thought of how it might have turned
sour.  Thank you very much Stefan Klos, my number one man.
