Fresh from their twelve goal romp against Fraserburgh in the Cup the Young Light Blues set about their visitors from the start with Stephen Stirling forcing Andy McNulty into a great save early on.

Cypriot winger Giorgis Efrem had a determination about him and he tormented the opposition defenders constantly throughout the ninety minutes beginning with a deft flick onto John Fleck who unleashed a powerful shot which McNulty did well to hold.

Isa Bagci then broke through but his shot went narrowly past the far post as he drew the 'keeper, however the deadlock was finally broken in the 13th minute when Efrem again audaciously flicked the ball over the static Caley back line, this time onto Andy Shinnie, the Scotland Internationalist calmly slotting the ball home past the exposed McNulty.

Shinnie then turned provider 6 minutes later when he played a perfect through ball to John Fleck who burst down the middle and beat the 'keeper with ease.

The visitors then settled down and started to inflict some pressure on the home defence, however the back line of Perry, Kinniburgh, Wilson and Harvey were solid as a rock and reduced the workload on Gallacher who coped easily with anything coming through.

The match was effectively safe three minutes before the interval when Fleck took a short corner to Efrem and the tenacious little winger flighted over a cross which was met at the far post by Danny Wilson who rose above the Inverness defenders to power his header home.

Half Time - Rangers 3 Inverness Caledonian Thistle 0

The second half saw no let up for the Highland lads as the young 'Gers continued pushing forward looking to increase their goal difference, this led to some hefty challenges going in on the Champions and Gavin Morrison found himself in Referee Don Robertson's notebook following a late tackle on Andy Shinnie. Steven Stirling took the resultant free kick which was met by Shinnie but the midfield maestro's effort struck the crossbar.

A long through ball to Isa Bagci on the 51st minute saw the big Swede run through the middle unchallenged, as McNulty came out to head the ball clear when it bounced the 'keeper then realised it was going over his head, he leapt up and grabbed the ball not realising he was at least a yard outside the box and gave the referee no alternative other than to show him the red card.

From the direct free kick awarded for that infringement, Efrem curled in a delightful shot which beat the wall and substitute goalie Andy Watt to put Rangers four in front.
Soon after it looked like the home side would extend their lead further when Bagci was fouled in the box and Don Robertson had pointed to the spot but the terrace side Assistant had earlier flagged for offside.

Isa Bagci finally got he goal he had been craving for since the previous Sunday when another long through ball found the visiting defence static and square yet again allowing the Striker to run into the box unchallenged and round Watt to slot the ball into the empty net on the 73rd minute.

10 man Caley Thistle had no answer other than to try shooting from outside the box and never troubled Gallacher all afternoon, Efrem meantime, was having a ball and amazed the watching 55 spectators with a piece of sheer brilliance when he collected a long cross field pass on his chest, controlled it with his head then flicked it over his marker to run in on goal only for Watt to push his shot round the post.

Shinnie then provided Fleck with a great opportunity late on but the little striker was denied by a great one handed save from Watt before Bagci hit the rebound just over.

In the dying seconds the frustration of a well beaten side showed when Gavin Morrison was shown a red card following a second booking, this time for dissent, and the visiting side finished the match with nine men.
