Saturday's Horse Racing Tips

The 2.40 at Kempton has long been the target for High Point who is still quite unexposed for a 6 year old. 2 Miles with a bit of cut in the ground seems ideal for him and I expect him to go well. He appears to have most to fear from Overstrand, Red Wine and Bid For Fame.

Kempton also has three listed races. I particularly like the chance of Soviet Song in the 4.20 who has won at group 1 level and Fantastic View in the 3.10. The 1.35 is a little tougher to call, however, it may pay to stick with Ithaca who won well first time out last year but subsequently disappointed. It may be that she is best first time out and I hope she proves this on Saturday.

Haydock also has a listed handicap in the 5f Field Marshall Stakes. I think it revolves around the first four on the card with my preference being for Nights Cross who was a decent 2 year old last year when he seemed suited by a soft surface.

The best bet of the weekend should be MAKTAVISH in the 4.10 at Musselburgh on Sunday. He won well on his first start at Doncaster and is well fancied to go in again at Musselburgh. Let’s hope the Easter expenses are saved by him.

Also Monday sees the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse 3.50. A few of the National entries are down to run here but at the time of writing we can’t be sure which if any will line up. Tyneandthyneagain must have a good chance after missing the Grand National and Native Jack and Timbera also hold solid claims. However, in a typically open affair it may pay to side with Tony Martin’s Xenophon who was a decent hurdler, is unexposed as a chaser and who gets a decent weight here.
