Sara Thackray 5-a-sides

Last updated : 06 August 2004 By Djurgadren Bear

She went into remission in May 2004; however she relapsed in June 2004. The only hope for her parents, Grant and Lynne, now is to take Sara to Duke Hospital in the US for a bone marrow transplant. Infant ALL is rare in the United Kingdom, and the only chance now is to take her to the US. This tragedy is made worse by the fact that Sara’s sister Tia died in October 2002, aged 20 months, to a sudden and devastating illness.

In order to take Sara to America and pay for the treatment her parents have to raise a minimum of £250,000.00. £50,000.00 has already been raised and The Daily Record has started a campaign which is already proving an amazing success. However much more is required.

Myself along with a few other posters on the board started looking into ways to help boost the fund and came up with an idea of a five-a-side tournament, so I got onto some local venues and VIDA were the first to reply and were delighted to help out by offering us pitches for free. The date for this tournament will be Saturday 28th of August at 12pm which is the day before the Old Firm game. We are looking to raise as much as possible for the little girl who's touched a nations heart.

The price has been decided at £80 per team based on 8 players per team. There will be 10 teams split into two groups of five At the moment the only cost to ourselves is referees which are widely available for £10 an hour, we are doing our best to find some who will be willing to waive their fee for this event. Other than that every penny raised on the day will go to the fund.

At the time of writing we are in negotiations with VIDA complexes in Livingston, Dunfermline and Aberdeen to have similar events on the same day. So again if you are interested please get in touch.

The address to contact is novo_says_no@hotmail.com, please include which venue you are interested in, in the subject of the e-mail along with team name, expected numbers and full name of the team organiser within the e-mail.
