Road To Hampden Starts This Weekend

The long road to Hampden Park and the Tennent's Scottish Cup Final
starts this Saturday, with the preliminary round of the Tennent's
Scottish Qualifying Cup.

There are five ties in the south competition,
two of them in Edinburgh and the others in the south west.

There could be difficulties for Edinburgh and Glasgow Universities in
raising a strong team in the middle of the summer vacation, and the
students will have to be at their best to beat Threave Rovers (last
year's runners up) and Girvan respectively. Top tie could be at Newton
Stewart, who face south rivals St Cuthbert Wanderers. The full list of
fixtures is:

Edinburgh University v Threave Rovers
Girvan v Glasgow University
Newton Stewart v St Cuthbert Wanderers
Spartans v Selkirk
Wigtown & Bladnoch v Civil Service Strollers

All of Saturday's ties kick off at 3.00 pm. The first round of both
north and south Qualifying Cups takes place on 30 August (draw details
are on the SFA website). If they progress, clubs know that a semi-final
place will give them entry into the Tennent's Scottish Cup.
