LEAGUE CUP FINAL FIXED ODDS SPECIAL

Last updated : 14 March 2003 By Grandmaster Suck
Celtic 6/4 v RANGERS 6/4  (Draw 11/5)

Overall there has been 28 Finals involving Rangers, and 24 where Celtic have taken part.

Rangers have the edge in the record books having converted 24 of their appearances into victory.  Celtic's LC Final encounters have been evenly split between winning the trophy 12 times and receiving the runners-up medals 12 times.

Surprisingly, the Glasgow rivals have not faced each other very often at the last stage of this Cup.  Out of the 56 previous competitions under it's various names, they have met each other only 11 times in the finals.  The last occasion was a decade ago when it was Rangers who were the victors in a 2-1 contest of what was then known as the Skol Cup.

We have to go back almost exactly 20 years for Celtic's last League Cup victory over their rivals which incidentally was won by the same scoreline.

Interestingly no less than six of the eleven finals between the Big Two have ended in 2-1, and all the finals between them have been settled by one-goal margins since the very first OF League Cup Final in '57 ended in that famous victory for Celtic.

CORRECT SCORE BETTING: The pattern of 2-1 or 1-0 wins, was last disrupted nearly twenty years ago, and these two scorelines had been the norm for the previous 25 years.

Covering both results at 7/1 for 1-0, and 8-1 for 2-1, may produce a nice profit if either of these final scores are repeated for the 10th time in 12 OF contests.

Odds- Rangers to win by:

1-0 - 7/1
2-0 - 10/1
2-1 - 8/1
3-0 - 25/1
3-1 - 22-1
3-2 - 28/1

As both teams are 6/4  to win, odds for correct scores are the same for either team.

FIRST PLAYER TO SCORE:

A lot of uncertainty regarding the Rangers forwards.  Will De Boer play and if so will he be fit enough for this game? What will the options be if he is absent? However Ferguson's presence is assured and at 9/1 might be worth a punt. Amoruso who seemed unusually reluctant to take the league match by the scruff of the neck last week, will surely be trying to make amends this time, and could resume his habit of bolting upfield for free kicks, crosses etc. You can get 25's for Amo if you think the Italian will break the deadlock.
