Ibrox Ulster Day

Last updated : 05 September 2008 By Grandmaster_Suck
With banners honouring the players and fans bringing Northern Ireland
flags and banners bearing the names of their towns, villages and
counties it will be a colourful event!

This year saw the centenary of the birth of Rangers record league
goal-scorer in a single season Sam English. Sam's name will live on
forever within Ibrox as he was honoured with the commissioning of a
silver bowl bearing his name, to be presented to Rangers top League goal
scorer each season.

As the official "Ulster Day" is September 28th some fans thought it
would be good to honour Sam and other Ulster-born Rangers players who
have come to the club over the years so that our connections with
Northern Ireland be celebrated in a positive manner. Too often the
age-old connection between Scotland and Ulster has been allowed to be
overshadowed by the recent Troubles and thereby sidelined.

The vast and overwhelming majority of the people of Ulster reject
terrorism and violence in any form and so we want to celebrate all
that's best in a manner befitting the spirit of friendship we've all
shared at times.

So, we're looking to make some simple banners bearing the names of the
Ulster Rangers players who have played at least one first-team
competitive game in the League, League Cup, Scottish Cup or European
competition. Groups around the stadium can contact us and if they can
provide the manpower we will try and supply the banners to display!

As with all previous Rangers fans flag displays no untoward language,
support for terrorism or gang slogans should be used - keep it simple
and keep it positive and mark our shared history in a colourful and
cheerful manner. Ulster flags and banners bearing RSC names or of home
towns are what we want to see.
