First guide dog to walk the West Highland Way

Scott, 33, from Larkhall, is such a keen walker that Travis was specially selected for his fitness. In fact, Scott believes Travis is the fittest guide dog in Scotland! Scott and Travis, who have been in training for the hike, are hoping to average 12-14 miles a day - and to complete the feat in just seven days. Their journey starts from Milngavie, just north of Glasgow, on Friday March 26 and finishes at Fort William. They will be staying in hostels during the seven-day trek and will be accompanied by two sighted guides.

Scott has been delighted with the support he has received and has already raised nearly £2,000, much of which has come from his work colleagues at the East Kilbride Inland Revenue. The money will go to help train other guide dogs.

Scott, who lost his sight ten years ago, says: "Without the aid of a guide dog I do not know what I would have done. I have been lucky enough to be landed with 2 cracking dogs.

"Not only did these dogs give me back my mobility and independence but also my confidence so doing this fundraising walk is my way of giving something back to The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association."

Mike Bird, Guide Dogs' Larkhall fundraising officer, added, " It is wonderful that Scott and Travis are taking on this challenge to help us raise funds for training new guide dogs. It costs £10 a day to breed, train and support each guide dog and there are currently almost 5,000 guide dog partnerships in the UK."
