Fans groups call for traditional songs to be respected

Dear Secretary,

As you know the Rangers Supporters Assembly, Rangers Supporters Association, Rangers Supporters Trust, Scottish Delegates and Oceania Rangers Supporters Association, recently met the Club Chairman David Murray, Chief Executive Martin Bain and Kenny Scott , the new Operations and Security Manager to discuss the aftermath of the ICT match.

This was an extremely constructive meeting which allowed us, the fan representatives to put across our views on what happened at the game and to discuss ways on how best to protect and enhance the reputation of Rangers fans and the Club.

We all agreed we have a fantastic support whose primary interest is to see success for Rangers F.C.

However, we also unanimously agreed that behaviour by some fans at Inverness was totally unacceptable and the Rangers fans' name ended up being dragged through the mud again and all because of the unacceptable add-ons. We would have liked to seen the police and stewards intervene at the match but alas this didn't happen - a subject Kenny Scott assured us has been raised by the Club with the police.

As a supporters club official your help and the help of your members will prove to be invaluable in the fans attempt to self police at home and more importantly at away games. We are asking you and your members to try and use your influence to persuade others not to get caught up in singing songs referring to fenian bastards, using FTP as an add-on to songs such as the Sash and Derry's Walls etc and also to refrain form singing the Billy Boys as everyone now knows that it is banned.

There is no doubt it will be extremely difficult but we must try our best for the good of the Team the Club as well as our own reputations.

We agreed at the meeting we would all step up our self-policing drive and you can help us do this by reinforcing our message on your supporters' buses and in your clubs. The message is simply, "CUT OUT THE ADD-ONS".

Supporters club members show their commitment to Rangers week in and week out by travelling all over the country to support the team and we want to make sure that everyone keeps up the good name of the Rangers fans.

We're all here for the interests of Rangers Football Club and we've got plenty to be proud of.

Thanks for your help and Good Luck.
