Advice for Bucharest Bears - how to get to the Ghencea Stadium

Last updated : 03 November 2009 By Megazerg
Megazerg's trip to Ghencea Monday 2nd November

The 385 bus took me straight to the stadium, Tickets are 1.3 RON (available from many kiosks situated at most bus stops with a RATB sticker). This bus is a frequent service serving every 10 minutes or less.

You can board this bus at the TOP side of Unirii square (same end as Bordellos). The bus passes the route where Whispers is, so patrons at all the pubs we nominated on behalf of FF can use this service without walking any reasonable difference. As the bus is approaching you will see the stadium to your right. Take a look at this map for the bus route, the stadium is just after Ghencea Cemetery http://www.happyfishinromania.boag.me.uk/385%20Bus%20to%20ghencea.jpg

Be very Careful with some of the pavements (and I use this term very very loosely) around the stadium, as in some areas around the stadium it appears to be very dangerous and as it will be dark there, take note of this heads up!!!

GETTING TICKETS
There are ticket kiosks outside the game and they are selling tickets for BOTH home and away support, so there should be no problem. One thing though, ID is required (see footnote). I with my Romanian wumman managed to wing it with my bank card.

ENTRANCE
I was at the Motherwell and Steua Game a few months back and prior to entering the game; away fans were escorted to a fenced area and were subject to a search.
All throw able things were confiscated even lighters were taken off people.

DRINKS AT THE GAME
Cartons of water are available for a rather expensive 5 RON for 200ml of water; other refreshments are available for the same value(non alcoholic).

AFTER THE GAME
Away team support will be held back for approximately 20 minutes after the game to clear the area.

BACK TO THE TOWN
Now getting out of there is quite difficult after the game as I'm led to believe the bus services are finished at that time, this leaves only one option, TAXI! Now at this moment in time the con artists taxis WILL swoop in and fleece you big style. I remember a time where one man asked me how much it was to the town, then asked in Romanian to the taxi, and he quoted 150 RON (the fare for his location was around 18 RON).

IF YOU ARE GOING TO BORDELLOS OF MOJOS YOUR FARE SHOULD NOT BE ABOVE 20 RON, IF YOU'RE GOING TO WHISPERS IT SHOULD NOT BE MORE THAN 25 RON. IF YOU ARE GOING SLIGHTLY NORTH OF THE CENTRE OF TOWN YOU SHOULD NOT PAY A FARE GREATER THAN 35 RON.

That evening I got a taxi to Unirii square, booked it by phone and it cost 13 RON and gave the driver 20. I have noted the numbers on FF elsewhere.

Good Luck and enjoy the game.

Now here are my thoughts on ID. Leave your passport in the hotel safe and carry around your photo card driving licence around town. If you don't have a driving licence then a photocopy of your passport should be with you at all times, Should you have a meeting with the police this should hopefully straighten things out a little.
