Aberdeen's new fan - John Delaney of the Football Association of Ireland

The boul’ John and his lovely partner rolled into the directors box as guests of Scottish Football Association President, Alan McRae, who represents Aberdonian junior side Cove Rangers.

McRae likes to maintain a low profile despite his high office so this article will be an unwelcome surprise for him.

As guests, John and his partner were presented with gifts from Aberdeen - a tie and a broach.  Delaney didn’t spare the horses in donning the new neckwear.  Nor did he spare his guests unseemly dancing at the final whistle.

Such, it seems, are the standards of decorum the FAi, SFA and Aberdeen Football Club are happy to entertain.

Scottish football is booming.

History fans may recall Delaney’s involvement in the five million euro bribe scandal - FIFA paid the FAi not to take them to court over a 2009 World Cup play-off defeat  - and his 2014 video performance warbling an IRA song in a Dublin pub.
